eBay is Protecting Your Rating

ebay has some safeguards in place to help protect your record of great service.
  • Get an automatic 5-star communication rating on all transactions where you offer same-day or 1-day handling time, in other words if you promise to ship your item within 24 hours.  Just upload tracking information by the end of the next business day, and there is no communication between you and the buyer.  Since there is no communication needed, there is no communication rating to be left, and that keeps your rating at 5-stars.

  • Feedback for unpaid items: Feedback that is left by a buyer with an unpaid item recorded for the transaction will be automatically removed from your record.  So, if the buyer doesn’t pay for the item and you report it as being unpaid, then they can no longer leave you feedback about that transaction.
  • Global protection: Earlier this year, eBay started displaying an automatic message on the View Item page to buyers outside the US regarding customs-related delays and customs duties. Because of this, any Feedback from international buyers that only references customs issues will qualify for Feedback removal.  If you were worried about selling globally, now you have a little added protection.  No more worries about customs causing you a bad feedback rating.

Isn’t it nice to know that eBay is trying to help safeguard the sellers as well as the buyers?  One of the reasons I love selling on eBay!

Featured Seller – Debra (debi0702)

This week I would like to shine the spotlight on my featured seller, Debra.  She has been an eBay member since 2006.  Check out her.

I asked her a few questions about herself and her eBay selling business.  The questions are in bold and her answers in italics.  Read on to see what she had to say.

Tell us a little about you and your family. How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I am a retired manager from a large national phone company currently working as a elementary school secretary. I have three children ages 28, 22 and 10 (yep you read right lol). I also have a wonderful supportive husband and 2 beautiful granddaughters ages 5 and 3.

When did you first start to build a business around eBay?
I started selling on eBay in the summer of 2006 it was amazing to me to see how much I could get for my daughter’s clothes.

Who has been an inspiration to you to continue selling on eBay?
That is an easy one, Jenn Cangelosi. I was a dedicated follower of her website and it taught me so much. I am still very good friends with her today and still ask for advice now and then.

What sort of person do you think would be a good fit for eBay?
eBay does take time so a person has to have the time and willingness to want to do it. Also with all the new seller rules, it must be a person who wishes to give excellent customer service too.

What first three steps would you recommend someone take to dig deeper into the opportunity?
1. Decide what you want to sell.
2. Determine profit availability for selling that item.
3. Get as much advise and learn your item inside and out – become an expert in that field.

Thanks Deb!!!

Ways to Use and Utilize eBay’s Want It Now

This is a continuation of the blog post from earlier this week.  There are a lot of great ways to put eBay’s Want It Now feature to work for you.  One of those is in buying inventory.  Want It Now are want ads, only better! You can create a post asking for specific items. As sellers search through these want ads, they respond with eBay listings. Now, I like this feature because as an eBay seller if I’m looking for clothing lots or something specific…it’s a good way to seek out extra inventory.

How does this help find inventory for eBay?
By seeking out inventory this way, I save myself the time of searching through listings looking for what I want.  This allows fellow sellers to find me, sending the listings for the items I want straight to my inbox.

eBay Want It Now Feature

You can’t just assume that eBay buyers are going to always find you. It helps, sometimes, if you try to find them. I take advantage of eBay’s Want It Now feature, with my own twist.

A great FREE feature that is included with all eBay memberships is Want It Now. Whether you are selling or buying, it can be helpful to utilize the Want It Now feature on eBay.

What is Want It Now?
From the eBay site – “Want It Now lets buyers post requests for hard-to-find items and allows sellers to respond to those requests with eBay listings.”

If your primary goal on eBay as a seller is to find a deal and turn it around to make some money, you can use Want It Now as a resource by creating posts seeking out inventory.

Want It Now provides eBay buyers an opportunity to ask for the items that they want or are unable to find. As a seller, you can respond to those requests with your eBay listings. This can be a great way to help boost sales during the slow times. You can look for potential buyers of the items you already have with a simple search.

IMPORTANT: Please only respond to posts if the item you have is exactly the same as that described in the post. It will be considered SPAM if you respond to a post with an item that is not an exact match – and you can be reported.

Try doing a search on the Want It Now boards every once in a while. Maybe a few times each season, when you feel that your sales are slowing down, or whenever you have a surplus of inventory. When you search posts go back about a week. It will take a little time, but is worth the extra sales. It can also give you an idea of what to keep an eye out for as you acquire your seasonal inventory.

Optimize Your eBay Store -The Single Most Important Thing You Can Do

The holiday season is past and we are on to the new year. Now is the perfect time to optimize your eBay store, if you haven’t done so already.

Create Multiple Custom Store Categories
This makes a lot of sense! eBay allows you to create up to 300 Categories and Subcategories in a single store. That is a lot of categories!! Be sure to use popular yet relevant keywords when creating your custom category names. This will help to ensure that you are placing on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

To add Store categories:
1. Got to My eBay.
2. Move your cursor over the Account tab to find the pull-down menu.
3. Select “Manage my store”.
4. Click on “Store Categories” link.
5. Click on the Add Category button.

To add a Store subcategory:
1. Got to My eBay.
2. Move your cursor over the Account tab to find the pull-down menu.
3. Select “Manage my store”.
4. Click on “Store Categories” link.
5. Select the link for the category name in which you want to add subcategories.
6. Click the Add Category button.

For more tips on this subject, check out eBay’s Store Categories page.

When Is Seasonal in Season?

A spin off to last weeks post about seasonal selling.  I received a question about When Is Seasonal in Season?

Q:  Wondering about seasonal items (Christmas etc) leave them up all year?

A:  YES!  Perfect instance – Halloween past – maybe you had some costumes that didn’t quite sell (yet).  Do you know how many costumes sell at Christmas?????  Think ‘Dress Up’!  Costumes sell all year.  Especially well in lots of similar sizes and themes.

It’s January, you should be thinking Valentines and EASTER – you always want to be months ahead of schedule.  If you are ever not sure, take a wonder around the retail locations and see what they have out.  For the most part, my advise is to list all seasons, all year to your eBay store.  Christmas in July will be here before you know it!  Christmas isn’t always about the toys.  Toys will sell all year – birthdays, Easter..etc. Special occasions don’t stop because toy season is over.

Hope that helps!  :-)
